Tackling anti-social behaviour this Spring - Lighter Nights

Residents enjoying the lighter nights since the clocks went forward, are being urged to be mindful of their actions in an effort to combat anti-social behaviour.

Harborough Community Safety Partnership are urging residents to be respectful to their communities as part of the ‘Respect and Tolerate’ campaign.

The aim of the campaign is to get communities to see things from two points of view.  Firstly, we encourage people to behave responsibly. We know the lighter days will bring more people out and about to socialise and catch up, and we want them to be respectful of people and their properties.

Secondly, we want to encourage our residents to consider whether young people are just playing as opposed to causing anti-social behaviour.  We know the lighter nights often lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour reporting, because more people socialise outside. As a result of this residents often complain about issues such as noise nuisance, both to the police and our partners.

Local residents will be encouraged to think about what constitutes anti-social behaviour and how, and when, to report it.

Community Safety Partnership Vehicle

We now have a new Community Safety Vehicle funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner. This welfare vehicle will be used in the coming months to increase our engagement with residents across the Districts especially those more rural areas. It provides a warm dry space with a table and chairs for meeting with the community.

Usage will include:

  • teaming up with our local Police officers to run beat surgeries in locations that don’t have a village hall.
  • Attending antisocial behaviour hotspots to increase visibility and be available for residents to speak to us.
  • Raising awareness of seasonal campaigns
  • Use by Community Safety Partners – Police, Fire Service and Turning Point.
  • Joint events with our Health and Wellbeing Team
