Come and support heroes!
Published Monday 19th September 2011
The Royal Anglian Regiment will march through the district in October with bayonets fixed, colours flying and band playing.
In February, Harborough District Council granted the Freedom of the District to the regiment - nicknamed The Steelbacks - in honour of its soldiers' courageous service overseas.
As a result of this, on Saturday 8th October, the Regiment will exercise its right to march through Market Harborough, starting at the top of the high street and making their way down to The Square.
People are invited to line the streets to show their support for the heroes of the regiment, many of whom come from the local area.
It is hoped this will be a wonderful and spectacular occasion, which will attract a huge crowd. So come along, bring family and friends and wave your flags.
There will be rolling road closures during the march and inspection in order to keep traffic disruption to a minimum. This will allow the soldiers and band to march at 11.40am from the top of the High Street, arriving onto The Square for 12noon, where there will be an inspection of the troops by the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and Harborough District Council chairman.
This will be followed by brief speeches, and the parade will then move off via Adam and Eve Street to the Council Offices.
The local Air Training Corps (ATC) band will play in The Square after the troops have left.
Langton Brewery and Chevelswarde Organics have kindly donated refreshments for the troops after the parade.
HFM Radio will also be distributing hand-held Union Jack flags to the crowds on the day to welcome the Royal Anglians as they parade through the town.
